Parents in Maryland Lose More Control Over What They’re Told by Schools

In response to parents who do not want their young children to be immersed in gender identity ideology in elementary schools, the Montgomery County school district decided they know better and have removed the ability of parents to opt out of gender non-conforming and transgender reading programs in K-5. Parents pushed back, saying, “If we just teach kids that you should be kind to all people and that we’re all individuals with unique qualities—if that’s the message, great,” but this is promoting a social cause. The school district ignored the parents, stating that students and families could no longer choose to opt out of engaging with any instructional materials.

As we’ve shown before in previous articles, what happens in MCPS seems to be considered for adoption in FCPS, and parents should take notice that their ability to control what their children are experiencing in school classrooms, counseling, and in activities like who participates on sports teams is disappearing.
