Schools Around the Country Are Providing Examples of Just How Far Some Administrators Will Go To Keep Parents From Knowing What Gender Choices Their Children Are Making
It’s worse than you think.
We have repeatedly based our support for parental notification on the right of parents to know what their minor children are choosing and have backed that up with the medical and scientific data that prove outcomes and support are best when parents are involved.
In just one of the many examples that schools defy parental notification, a Colorado school district administration instructed staff to “follow the student, not the parent” after an assistant principal was concerned that she had been specifically instructed not to use alternative pronouns by a child’s parents. The school system took this position partially based on input from the ACLU, one of the groups opposing our policy proposal requiring notification.
