Positive Step for Parental Rights in FCPS

An FCPS Policy Proposal Has Been Created That Requires School Officials To Notify Parents of Their Child’s Gender Choices and Transgender Decisions.

Under current FCPS policies FCPS staff are not required to notify parents if their child questions their gender, behaves in a manner consistent with gender dysphoria, or states that they are transgender.

In any of these situations we believe school staff should be required to notify parents. School staff should meet in person with the child’s parents to share their reasons for believing the child has gender identity concerns and shall share the Gender Dysphoria Information packet described in section 445.4 of the policy that explains gender dysphoria in layperson’s terms.

The policy also provides a substantial amount of information, definitions of terminology, and detailed guidance that lay the foundation for a consistent, full program for handling this topic within our schools.

That new Comprehensive Gender Identity Policy Proposal can be found by clicking here.

If parents wish to support this policy on parental notification we ask that they join the February 8th BOE meeting, currently scheduled for 6:00pm at 191 East South Street, Frederick.
