Mail in Ballots Heavily Favor Democrats and Union-Backed Candidates by a Wide Margin

November 13, 2022

Democrats are consistently receiving 70-80% of the post-election mail-in vote counts, dramatically tightening and, in some cases, changing the results of several races. For example, David Trone received 45% of the Election Day voting, 55% of the early voting, and 80% of the mail-in votes. This pattern is consistent across virtually all races.

Frederick County BOE

Here are the initial election results for Frederick County BOE before the counting of mail-in ballots and the current election results for Frederick County BOE as of Saturday, November 12. The Post-Election Day column reflects the number of votes each candidate has gained from post-Election Day ballot counts.

Providing a comparison of early Election Day and mail-in voting is a bit more complicated than other races because of the higher number of union-backed Slate candidates in the race (Karen Yoho, Rae Gallagher, Dean Rose, and Ysela Bravo) and the fact that voters can vote for up to 4 of the candidates. When adjusted for this, the Slate received ~46% of the Election Day Votes, ~55% of the early voting, and 76% of the mail-in ballots.

The above chart will continue to change until the vote count is final. Information on how many additional ballots were left to count was not available.

Other Races Impacting Education in Frederick County

Michael Hough continues to hold the lead over Jessica Fitzwater (52% to 48%), who was endorsed by the NEA and the Maryland teacher’s union, primarily for her positions on social issues and her opposition to school choice. Jessica Fitzwater has received 73% of the mail-in votes as of November 12, versus 41% on Election Day and 52% in early voting.

Neil Parrot has conceded the U.S. Congressional race (District 6) to David Trone, who leads the race after the November 12 count (52% to 48%). David Trone has received 80% of the mail-in ballots (most of which came from Montgomery County), versus 45% on Election Day and 55% in early voting. David Trone opposes school choice and advocates for the advanced SEL programs supported by the NEA and Maryland teacher’s union.

Mail-in Ballot counting continues today for all races.
