Here are our questions for candidates that can help the voters assess who is aligned with their own beliefs and positions. They cover academics, transparency, accountability, gender identity, CRT and access to public documents.

1. Do you believe that academic proficiency is the single most important priority of the FCPS? If not, what is the priority?
2. Do you believe that academic proficiency status should be a standing BOE agenda item?
3. Do you believe the balance of time spent in school is properly allocated between academics and social and emotional learning?
4. The FCPS has 11 committees under the BOE raging from Family Life Advisory to Racial Equity; do you believe an Academic Proficiency committee should be added?
5. If properly managed, would you support allowing the public to have an opportunity to ask the BOE clarifying questions at public meetings?
6. Do you believe the public accountability and reporting on the metrics of the FCPS on things like teacher retention/attrition, academic proficiency rates and racial disparities and causes should be made more accessible to the public and how would you do it?
7. Do you believe the topic of gender identity should be avoided in K-3 and instead be the responsibility of the family?
8. Do you believe that the school system should be required to inform parents if their child appears to be gender dysphoric or is choosing a gender other than their biological gender?
9. Notwithstanding any current state regulations guiding the choice, which do you believe is more appropriate, opt-out or opt-in?
10. Do you support adding the principles of CRT (and “Anti Racism”) into the teacher training, policies, and the classroom lessons?
11. Do you agree with the MSEA’s positions opposing school choice, eliminating standardized testing, and making equity and social learning the “cornerstone” of Maryland’s school funding?
12. Do you believe teacher training materials should be available to the public for review?
